Greens Senator and Environment Spokesperson Sarah Hanson-Young says Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek pushing to extend the Murray Darling Basin Plan past the 2024 deadline to fulfil its election commitment is “heartbreaking”.
“It has been a wasted decade of inaction, of stalling, of sabotage,” Ms Hanson-Young told Sky News Australia.
“$13 billion spent and still a river system that’s in crisis because people have gamed the system.
“Now we have sadly and very very disappointingly this move from the Labor Minister Tanya Plibersek putting up the wide flag on the Murray Darling Basin Plan.”
